Argyll and Bute Council Convener provides civic reception for the Green Belt Group
The HGBG was delighted at the gesture initiated by the Council's Convener, Councillor Billy Petrie, in holding a civic reception lunch for present and past members of the Helensburgh Green Belt Group Committee and their partners on 29th October. This was in recognition of the Groups 15 years of service to the town.

In his speech, Councillor Petrie pointed out how important it is to have active local groups which give time and effort to the welfare of Helensburgh and he thanked all those who had contributed to the Green Belt Group's efforts over the years.
He reminded his audience that it is the Council which has the responsibility of making decisions, but that local groups can provide information, viewpoints and support that can assist in those decisions. He stated that over the past 15 years the Green Belt Group have made a valuable contribution to the community.
Responding, Alastair Macbeth, Chairman of the Green Belt Group, thanked the Convener for the wonderful reception and the other Councillors for giving time in busy schedules to attend. He reminded Councillor Petrie that it was a speech made by him in 1990 which had led to the creation of the Green Belt Group.
Alastair praised the friendly teamwork of past and present committee members and many others who had assisted as advisers and deliverers of the newsletter. And he concluded by contrasting the circumstances of 1990 with those of 2005, saying that the Group must always be prepared to reassess its position as times change.
