Communication

The Helensburgh Green Belt Group is a voluntary organisation dedicated to serving the community. Two-way communication with the public is a important aspect of our work.

We publish our newsletter Helensburgh Greenery twice a year to keep you informed about the local countryside, any planning or other matter that may affect it, specific threats to the Green Belt and what we are doing. 1,000 copies of "Greenery" are printed for each edition.

It is made available locally free of charge by various methods and is posted to a range of organisations such as the Council, local Councillors, the Scottish Government etc. Supplies of Greenery are also maintained in appropriate buildings such as the Library, the Victoria Halls, the Medical Centre, A&BC Office in West Princes Street and the Tourist Office.

Some of the local firms who advertise in Greenery or on this website have a supply available, so why not visit them and see what else they have to offer ?

You may download the following editions of Greenery in pdf format :

July 2007,  No. 29

Local Plan Inquiry, Duchess Wood improvements

Nov. 2007,  No. 30

Landscape report and its relevance to the Green Belt; countryside problems; effects of climate change on our local wildlife; footpaths progress; Local Plan update; and other features.

To ensure we are not blinkered but help to contribute to the future of Helensburgh, we are frequently in touch with other local organisations and have members to represent the HGBG on the Helensburgh Community Council and other groups. Occasionally we have produced a special Bulletin in conjunction with other local groups on particular subjects eg Draft Local Plan.

The views of the public are greatly welcomed, particularly when a development is being proposed in the Green Belt, as these may be justified by the potential benefit to the public (e.g. the location of the new Hermitage Academy, which we supported). Click here to give us your comments by email. Also Greenery sometimes includes a Questionnaire which you may complete and return to us, and it often invites comments on particular issues.

In 2005 we set up this web site in which we try to explain the benefits of the countryside such as the variety of walks available with health benefits and beautiful views across the Firth of Clyde and Loch Lomond, the interesting plant life and local wildlife. We are always trying to keep our web site up to date so do return and see what changes have been made since your last visit.

There is a Questionnaire on the Home page and also a General Enquiry Form on the Contact Us page; on both of which you can make any comment or suggestion you would like us to consider.
